DESIGN
The footprint is a mere 6.2”x11.5” (WD), and you have the option to opening the front output tray or not. Just leave the tray closed, and the paper lands on the flat space in front of the scanner. If your desk is too cluttered for that, you can open the tray—either permanently, or only when you scan, so you still get to use the desk space for other things.
SETUP
Ease of setup is standard on Fujitsu S5100. Install the software from the CD, plug the power cord and a USB cable, let Windows detect the scanner, and you’re ready for your very first scan. We installed the ScanSnap on a Vista system, but according to Fujitsu the disc includes a full set of software for Windows 2000 and XP as well as a Mac version of the scan utility.
SPEED
Fujitsu S1500 offers roughly a 10% enhancement in speed from the most-recent ScanSnap, to 40 images per minute and 20 pages per minute when scanning in duplex mode. It shares the same 600 pixel per inch (ppi) optical resolution, which is more than enough for document scanning, and the same 50-page capacity for its automatic document feeder (ADF). It also adds an ultrasonic sensor to detect double feeds.
